What is a Blog?
A definition by Wikipedia tells us that:
A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Blogs are a very useful way for a person to express themselves on the internet through the use of multiple forms of media. The most basic blog is simply a text oriented list of chronological entries. However, a lot of people have photo-blogs, video-blogs, audio-blogs (podcasts), and even all of those rolled into one.
Note: Another important concept to understand is RSS - please read this brief article I published on BloggingTips.com.
In the following posts, I will be discussing the basics of setting up your first blog. I will show you how to purchase and manage a domain name + website hosting. Note that a domain name and site hosting does cost money, but I will also talk about some free alternatives. After that, I will show you how to install the first version of your blogging platform. You will be using the free blogging software WordPress to manage your blog.
Stay tuned for the upcoming articles on how to manage your blog and how to monetize your blog.
